Lumboperitoneal shunt

 

Diversion of cerebrospinal fluid through a catheter in the lumbar thecal sac that travels through a subcutaneous tunnel around the flank and empties into the peritoneal space.  

For a number of reasons these shunts do not work as well or as long as ventriculoperitoneal VP shunts.
