Spine Center - Spine Fellowship Program
The USC neurosurgery spine fellowship program is a one year program offered to neurosurgeons or orthopedic surgeons who have completed an ACGME accredited residency. In select cases, senior neurosurgery residents who are interested in completing an enfolded-fellowship with residency will be considered. The fellowship program is intended for individuals who are interested pursuing in-depth training in the surgical management of spinal disorders. Areas of specialized education in spine surgery at USC include minimally invasive spine surgery, spinal deformity surgery, and spinal oncology procedures such as en bloc spondylectomy. Individual(s) in the fellowship program will appointed as clinical instructors in the department of neurological surgery at USC upon acceptance to the spine fellowship program. Responsibilities will include autonomous duties in the clinics, inpatient wards, and operating room with senior faculty support. Our clinical facilities include the USC University Hospital, LAC-USC County General Hospital, and Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center, all of which are major tertiary referral centers for patients with spinal disorders in the Southern California region. Fellows in the USC neurosurgery spine fellowship program can expect to participate in over 350 instrumented spine cases within these three centers during their fellowship period.
In addition to the clinical experience, the USC neurosurgery spine fellowship offers the ability to pursue academic endeavors during the fellowship period. As one of the world’s leading private research universities, USC offers ample research opportunities in neuroscience and neurosurgery. Fellows may also participate in both clinical and basic science research in minimally invasive spine surgery, spine oncology, and spinal cord injury conducted by the USC neurosurgery spine faculty.
